Magento can model almost anything.

That is not faint praise. For genuinely complex catalogues, multi-store structures and unusual pricing, it is more capable than most things sold as its replacement.

The question is what the team keeping it running costs you, and what that team is not doing instead.

First, honestly

What Magento does better than us.

Modelling

  • Extremely complex catalogues
  • Sophisticated pricing rules
  • Multi-store, multi-website structures
  • Deep B2B, natively

Control

  • Self-hosted, entirely yours
  • Anything is customisable
  • A mature enterprise ecosystem
  • Established integration partners

Scale

  • Proven at very large catalogue sizes
  • Well-understood at high order volume
  • Enterprise support available
  • Easy to justify to a board

The other side

What it costs to keep.

  1. 01

    It needs a team

Not a developer — a team, or an agency retainer that behaves like one. That is the real price, and it recurs.

  2. 02

    Upgrades are projects

Version upgrades are planned, budgeted and feared. Which is why so many Magento shops are running something older than they would like to admit.

  3. 03

    Simple changes are not simple

The flexibility that lets it model anything is the same flexibility that means a merchandising change goes through a release cycle.

  4. 04

    The new expectations are missing

AI on the storefront, a native app, cash-on-delivery confirmation. Buildable, at the cost of the team you already have.

Honest about the migration

1

of the harder ones, and we will say so up front.

Complex attribute sets, custom pricing rules and years of bespoke extensions do not all survive a move. We would rather scope that properly than promise a clean import and discover the truth in week three. See /migrate.

"If Magento is modelling something genuinely complex and the team exists, stay. Buy MAP or Zust and keep the shop." When you should not move

Both work on Magento without replatforming — Zust connector is in development, MAP is live. That is the version of this argument we are willing to lose.

Next step

Send us your attribute set and your pricing rules.

That is the honest way to scope a Magento move. We will tell you what maps cleanly, what needs rebuilding, and whether the whole thing is worth doing yet.
